Maxava continues to focus on DRaaS readiness for global market.
Anaheim, CA, April 26, 2015: Maxava, a global leader in IBM i high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) software for both on-premise and cloud environments has been turbo-charging its Maxava HA Enterprise+ solution for maximum performance and operational efficiency in Cloud environments.
Speaking at the COMMON press conference in Anaheim on Sunday, Peter Kania, Maxava’s Director of Technical Services and Development, described how the IBM Premier Business Partner, ISV and MSP has been working on optimizing its solution for the Cloud.
Disaster Recovery as a Service, the fastest growing segment in the Cloud, means that organizations can take advantage of infrastructure cost savings, provisioning speed and outsourced management. IBM i users can purchase cost-effective, fully-managed, real-time backup and recovery solutions in the Cloud. Kania stated that in addition to working with MSP partners globally since 2007, Maxava has also been servicing Cloud customers for vendor partners on its own IBM i systems. “For the last 12 months”, said Kania, “we have been working to streamline our solutions and processes for the Cloud. We can now offer all of our partners a cost effective, high performance package that they can deliver to their customers. Maxava has built a solution that lets vendors “build their own MSP” for their customers utilizing Maxava software and service modules – or alternatively they can add Maxava’s fully packaged service to their existing portfolio. This is a perfect solution, Kania noted, for traditional IBM i resellers whose customers are now starting to ask about Cloud services.
A Cloud customer’s data is replicated in real-time to the Maxava Cloud, ensuring that it is always protected, down to the very last transaction. End users can back up to an on-shore (or off-shore) data center using dedicated lines or via secure VPN over the internet. With the Cloud, monthly costs are 100% predictable, with backup machine and data center costs included in the price. Maxava or its vendor partners fully manage and monitor the DR or HA environment using tools specifically developed by Maxava for the Cloud.
Kania explained that since 2007, when Maxava recognized early the potential of the Cloud, Maxava has committed significant investment to developing specific and comprehensive support for IBM i cloud-based Business Continuity solutions. These have already been available for a number of years via selected MSP partners worldwide. Functionality such as mobile technology, a focus on remote journaling, single button execution of command scripts, sophisticated real-time multi-site monitoring, and most recently, major IFS replication performance enhancements, have all contributed to delivering even more streamlined replication. This can now be performed faster, more efficiently, and with less bandwidth – all critical for a truly successful Cloud environment.
“Maxava’s development focus is about getting the data to the backup in the shortest possible time, and with minimum fuss, to ensure it is always protected”, concludes Peter Kania. “Immediate data transfer to backup is vital, so that if anything goes wrong on the production server, there’s already a copy of the latest data “off-system.”
